MurrayEats: it’s what’s for dinner

Review of MurrayEats services.

Services like Uber Eats and DoorDash are growing in popularity in big cities across the country. MurrayEats is now providing a similar service to Murray.

MurrayEats currently offers delivery service from six restaurants: Qdoba, Los Portales, Bad Bob’s BBQ, Rudy’s on the Square, Lucky’s and Cakes to Remember, and two grocery stores: Kroger and Walmart. Customers can place their order to these restaurants and stores through the MurrayEats website.

The website promotes, “order in 30 seconds, eat in 30 minutes,” so our JMC 597 Collaborative Journalism Capstone class decided to put this to the test recently.

We did a class lunch order from Qdoba of four entrees and a side. The ordering process was fairly simple and clearly laid out on the website. The standard $6 delivery fee was then added to our order, and I was given the option to pay with my debit card or pay the delivery person in cash upon arrival. I placed the order at 12:32 p.m. and the website said delivery time should be between 12:57 p.m. and 1:02 p.m.. MurrayEats website displays a tracker so the customer can see where in the process their delivery person is.

We received our delivery at 1:06 p.m., the order was four minutes over the estimated time, but we were pleased to find the food was still hot and not far over time. An additional perk – they even put the toppings and the chips of the nachos separate so the chips would not get soggy during delivery. Overall, we were pleased with the quality and timeliness of this service.

In my opinion, a $6 delivery charge along with tipping the driver may be too expensive for me to want to use this service on smaller orders in the future. But MurrayEats is a great alternative for someone ordering for a large group and wants to change the pace of normal delivery pizza, and support a local business that is trying to bring a normally big city door delivery app luxury to the MKY.
