Cows on the Loose on Murray State’s Campus
Update: Chick-fil-A will open Sept. 25, 2019.
Cows are on the loose at Murray State University.
No, not actual cows.
Small stuffed cows with Chick-fil-A’s slogan “Eat Mor Chikin’” turned up in front of the Engineering Building on Sept. 6, according to a Racer Dining Instagram post.
“We decided to do the Find Your Cow campaign as a way to build excitement and buzz about Chick-fil-A’s opening,” said Sam Doran, field marketing specialist for Racer Dining. “We wanted to do something that could generate social media engagement as well as provide students with a fun, interactive experience that would keep everyone’s anticipation alive while we finish up the last stages of preparation.”
The cows will be hidden throughout campus. Racer Dining will give hints to the whereabouts of the cows every few days on their Instagram page. Finding a cow gets you free Chick-fil-A and the chance to be one of the first customers on opening day. The contest has students even more excited about Chick-fil-A opening.
Emily Weber, a junior, said she has been looking forward to campus getting a Chick-fil-A since she came to Murray State.
“I was so sad to come back to campus and see it still wasn’t open. I wish they would hurry up and open or at least set a date,” Weber said. “But I think the contest is definitely hyping students up more and making the wait a little easier.”
Ida Mutai, a senior, found the first cow. She found the cow on the second floor of Alexander. Mutai said she used the hint from the Instagram post to find the cow.
“I knew what I was looking for when I found the cow so it was easy to find,” Mutai said. “I am really excited for Chick-fil-A to open on campus. I hope it is sooner than later. I won’t get tired of waiting for it to open though because I know it will be worth it.”
Currently two cows have been hidden and found on campus, but more will be spotted over the next few weeks. People who find a cow should post a photo, tag @racerdining and use the hashtag #FindYourCow.
“We’re so very excited about Chick-fil-A coming to campus and this is just one way we want to engage the campus community and have a little fun to celebrate this exciting new chapter of campus life,” Doran said.
Racer Dining could not disclose the exact date Chick-fil-A is expected to open, but they did say to expect an opening date “very soon.” An announcement will be made on the Racer Dining social media pages when a date is officially set.
Chick-fil-A can be found on the first floor of Curris Center in the Stables.
